The U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) is a uniformed service committed to promoting, protecting, and advancing the health of our Nation and populations abroad. PAs serve in various capacities throughout the federal government as agents for improving public health. This presentation will provide a general overview of the PHS and outline the duties PAs assume while serving as Commissioned Corps officers.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
Define the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) and describe how PAs work to support its' mission
Identify career opportunities afforded to active duty PAs serving as PHS officers
Outline agency-specific duties and responsibilities of PAs serving as PHS officers
Describe the Department of Health and Human Services and briefly discuss the mission of each departmental agency
