The rise of digital monitoring via smartwatches is making it easier to empower patients to live healthier lives. But is that really true? No doubt continuous monitoring increases the rate of diagnosis, but are they relevant, and at what cost? In a point-counterpoint discussion, the faculty will discuss the pros and cons of continuous home monitoring with a special focus on cardiovascular health. Attendees will leave this presentation with an increased awareness of the risks and benefits of continuous monitoring via smartwatch technology. Likewise, they will also be able to have a more informed discussion and provide better shared decision-making when their next patient discusses their smartwatch rhythm alert.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
Describe the role smartwatches play in patient cardiac monitoring
Discuss the risk and benefits of smartwatch rhythm notification systems
Learn how to better educate patients on the limitations and capabilities of personal home monitoring devices
