Sore Throat Solutions: Can't-Miss Causes of Sore Throats

Sore throats are a common presenting complaint to urgent and primary care offices and emergency departments. Sore throats can be caused by a variety of conditions that range from self limiting to deadly. In this session, we will discuss the most common causes of sore throats, including the can't-miss causes. We will also briefly discuss the pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic management of these conditions.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
  • Describe the treatment of patients with bacterial and viral pharyngitis
  • Discuss how to differentiate life threatening sore throats from non-life threatening sore throats
  • Describe the appropriate management of a patient with a sore throat
