This session will provide a short review for determining the etiology of dysphagia when it presents as the chief compliant in an outpatient primary care setting. Faculty will discuss appropriate history taking, physical examination, procedural testing, treatment, referrals and next steps for this common complaint when seen in primary care.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:

Describe how specific history questions can aid in narrowing the etiology and diagnosis for newly-onset dysphagia
List three tests or procedures that may be utilized by a primary care provider to help assess the etiology of dysphagia
Discuss potential specialty referrals for dysphagia and when these referrals would be indicated
