Interventional radiology (IR) continues to be on the forefront of modern medicine with providing minimally invasive image-guided treatment. Being aware of the treatment provided by IR is essential to continue to advance patient care. This presentation will provide clinical pearls to educate and expose providers to IR procedures including trauma embolization, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS), liver directed cancer therapies and uterine artery embolization. A brief overview of each procedure, indications and contraindications, common follow-up, success rates and common complications will be discussed, allowing hospitalists and primary care providers to feel comfortable referring to IR.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
Recognize common interventional radiology (IR) procedures and what each procedure entails
Identify when to appropriately refer to IR via the indications and contraindications of the discussed procedures
Describe common follow up and complications of the discussed IR procedures
