Low back pain is a common reason patients seek medical care, and busy clinicians need an efficient method for evaluation. Physical examination textbooks used in PA programs often present numerous tests, movements, and activities, each targeting specific structures or systems. Conducting an examination this way is time-consuming and often requires the patient to move excessively. This presentation will demonstrate an efficient, evidence-based physical exam for patients with back pain that can justify imaging or referrals. This session is geared toward early-career PAs or those interested in validating their current practices.
Note: This session requires separate registration and has limited seating. Sign up when you register for conference.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
Recognize the importance of performing a thorough physical examination for patients with low back pain
Demonstrate the “three-minute back exam”
Apply examination findings to determine when further evaluation is necessary
Integrate the "three-minute back exam" into clinical practice
