NTS: Beyond the Beeps: Supporting Families and Providers After Patient Death
Sunday, May 18, 2025
4:30 PM – 5:00 PM
CE: .50 AAPA Category 1 CME
Every year, more people die in the hospital rather than at home, and the mortality rate approaches 30% for adult ICU patients. But what is the dying experience like for the patient and their family? Does the healthcare team forget about them after they die? Do clinicians get a chance to sympathize and empathize with the family? What about family members who did not have the opportunity to see their loved one before he or she passed away? In this session, you will learn about the development of a remembrance service for patients who have passed away in the hospital. Attendees will leave with the knowledge of how to implement this impactful event at their respective facility – helping to bring closure to family and staff, all while reducing staff burnout.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
Recognize the importance of a patient remembrance service
Describe the implementation of a remembrance service
Develop a plan to set up a remembrance service at their respective institution
