Improving Outpatient Antibiotic Prescribing: Case-based Scenarios in Quality Improvement
CANCELLED
Inappropriate antibiotic use in outpatient settings is a pressing public health problem. Combatting antimicrobial resistance necessitates improvements in antibiotic use. This can be accomplished through leveraging quality improvement frameworks such as CDC’s Core Elements of Outpatient Antibiotic Stewardship to improve antibiotic prescribing. PAs can facilitate and lead improvements in antibiotic use by setting standards for antibiotic prescribing, identifying high-priority conditions, and implementing antibiotic stewardship activities and interventions. This presentation will share national data on PA antibiotic prescribing, describe a systematic approach for improving outpatient antibiotic use, and review antibiotic stewardship case scenarios which describe how PAs can improve outpatient antibiotic use.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
Describe current antibiotic prescribing epidemiology and key targets for improving antibiotic prescribing in outpatients
Identify evidence-based approaches for improving antibiotic prescribing for high-priority conditions
Review case-based scenarios describing how PAs can address inappropriate antibiotic use
