NTS: Common Problems and Evidence-based Solutions for Long Term MOUD

Common problems encountered by clinicians managing buprenorphine for opioid use disorder include medication side effects, the need to comanage buprenorphine and opioid pain medications in the context of surgery, and challenges around tapering off of buprenorphine. We will explore evidence based, patient centered strategies to manage these issues.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
Describe the pathophysiology of opioid dependence and how MOUD helps to promote remission
Manage common side effects of buprenorphine in a patient centered approach
Recall strategies for management of buprenorphine in the context of acute or surgical pain
Explain patient motivation to taper off of MOUD and strategies to taper while sustaining recovery
