Many complex lacerations are referred to specialists unnecessarily, prematurely, or simply because they are repaired improperly. This case-based course is designed to increase the participant's scope of practice in managing complex acute traumatic wounds. By exploring common, but frequently problematic, cases from injury and management to post-repair follow-up, participants will learn specialized suturing techniques that will improve patient outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:

Demonstrate multi-layer cosmetic wound closure techniques
Assess and repair lacerations using a variety of closure methods including simple interrupted, intradermal, vertical and horizontal mattress
Practice and perform appropriate wound excision and debridement techniques
Practice and perform repair of single flap, multiple flap, stellate, and parallel lacerations
Apply important pearls and ‘tricks of the trade’ to improve wound closure outcomes
