PA Wellstar Medical Group Pediatric Orthopedics Atlanta, GA, United States
A common refrain in PA education states that children are not just "little adults." Fractures in pediatric and adult patients represent a significant divergence in how they are approached and managed. Optimal management of pediatric fractures requires recognizing the characteristics that make pediatric fractures unique. PAs will benefit from contrasting pediatric and adult bone characteristics and therefore be able to identify opportunities to improve patient care while also improving communication amongst colleagues.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
Review the unique characteristics of pediatric bony anatomy, fractures, and their healing
Improve patient care in the primary, urgent, and emergent care settings by learning the differences between pediatric and adult fractures
