The Introduction to Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) workshop was developed to teach the basics of ultrasound physics and operation and broadly applicable POCUS skills. Designed to provide spaced repetition and to maximize hands-on practice, learners will practice focused cardiac ultrasound, lung ultrasound, DVT compression ultrasonography, and the extended Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma (eFAST) exam. This course will utilize recorded pre-course content; brief, high-yield lectures; and hands-on practice to maximize learning and skill acquisition.
Note: This session requires separate registration and has limited seating. Sign up when you register for conference.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
Explain the basics of ultrasound physics and machine operation
Identify scope and indications for heart, lung, DVT compression ultrasonography, and eFAST POCUS exams
Contrast normal and abnormal images
Obtain POCUS images of the heart, lungs, deep venous system, right upper quadrant, left upper quadrant, and pelvis
