Type 2 Diabetes is a progressive disease. All people living with diabetes may require insulin therapy during the duration of the disease. PAs are at the forefront in managing diabetes due to the low number of endocrinologists in comparison with the number of people living with diabetes. This session will provide the tools and guidelines to initiate and intensify insulin therapy in a simplified manner. Attendees can return to practice ready to implement these tools to improve patients' glycemic outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
Discuss when ADA guidelines recommend utilizing insulin therapy in people with type 2 diabetes
Learn how to initiate and titrate basal insulin when not reaching glycemic targets with oral or noninsulin injectable medications
Identify when intensification of insulin therapy is necessary and how to initiate and intensify prandial insulin
