Climate change is increasingly affecting both individual and population health. PAs should be prepared to advise patients about how to mitigate their individual risks in clear, noninflammatory language and to anticipate climate-related impacts on their patients’ health. This session will address these concerns, and delve more deeply into preventive strategies, mental health impacts, and the disproportionate effects on vulnerable populations. PAs across all specialties will find this information valuable for their practice.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
Summarize the range of climate impacts on human health
Educate patients for mitigation of climate health risks, such as extreme heat and poor air quality due to wildfire smoke
Describe potential impacts of climate change on mental health
Appraise patient risk for disparities in impacts of climate change
