Urgent Care PA: A Day in the Life & Common Chief Concerns

This presentation would will discuss a day in the life of an urgent care PA, reviewing typical hours, volume, staffing, etc., and briefly review commoncommonly seen chief concerns in urgent care, and how to best triage them. I would. The session will include tips for how to be successful on a family medicine/UC rotation. This session will be followed by networking for students with urgent care PAs.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
Review "a day in the life" of an urgent care provider and discuss a typical shift as far as volume, staffing, hours, etc. Review tips for student success on completing rotations in the urgent care setting.
Provide a brief overview of a few common and complex urgent care (UC) concerns that should always be referred out to ER or specialist, in contrast to common and complex UC concerns that can be safely managed in the UC setting.
Provide insight and increased confidence to providers and “new grads” who may not be comfortable with certain chief concerns or procedures in order to lessen unnecessary "turfing".
Review some "red alarm" signs in common complaints that indicate need for referral to ER.
Brief review of some helpful scoring criteria and commonly used algorithms to help guide management.
