WS: Upper Extremity Exam and Injection Workshop

Gain confidence in performing a musculoskeletal exam from the shoulders to the hands. Attendees will learn how to distinguish among common upper extremity disorders by learning specialized exam skills. Attendees will also be guided through identifying anatomical landmarks and finding appropriate placement for various upper extremity injections. A hands-on introduction to ultrasound-guided injections will also be provided. Participants will be partnered to practice exam techniques so please wear clothing suitable for proper examination of the entire upper extremity, including the shoulder.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
  • Review upper extremity surface anatomy
  • Discuss common conditions of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand
  • Demonstrate specialized exam techniques to evaluate the joints of the upper extremity
  • Perform joint aspiration and injection techniques on task trainers
  • Incorporate ultrasound guidance to enhance the accuracy and efficacy of joint injection techniques
