Researchers at RAND and the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) are developing a new system dynamics model to better understand physician workforce dynamics and address imbalances. We worked with AAPA and AANP to include better model structures and data on the roles PAs and NPs play in meeting the nation's health care needs. Background and an overview of the model and model development process will be described, and preliminary results shared, with a focus on how better inclusion of PAs and NPs can lead to better policy.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
Recall the importance of physician workforce projections, and health workforce projections more broadly, in informing policy
Discuss how the new RAND-AAMC model does a better job of representing PAs and NPs in its structure and outputs
Discuss how doing a better job of representing PAs and NPs in physician workforce projections can change policy for the better
